Portrait of a country. A newly founded state. Freckles and a typical Israeli hat (kova tembel), a hint of a uniform: tidiness and casualness. A gaze at the horizon: is it the past she is looking at or the future? Chris Marker's gaze in Petite Planète series (Small Planet), where each volume is the "equivalent of a conversation you would like to have with an intelligent man who knows well the country you are interested in." Within this volume, the number tattooed on the arm becomes a face, a portrait of a state. (David Catarivas, Israël, Seuil, coll. Petite Planète, 1957).
